Entries have opened for the this November’s Classic 24 at Daytona and the accompanying Daytona Historics. This is the third time organisers Historic Sportscar Racing have run the Daytona event and it continues to grow and attract a fine display of classic race cars.
The 2015 event offered the slightly incongruous sight of 1980s Group C cars racing on the Daytona banking, something that didn’t happen in period, and for this year’s edition the HSR have embraced that theme with IMSA GTP cars and Group C being the featured run group for 2017. Closely related in many ways, the Porsche 962 running in only slightly different version in both series for example, if the crowd-pleasing sportscars turn up in decent numbers then that particular run group will provide some great racing round the Daytona infield and banking.
If you are fortunate to have a car tucked away in your collection that would have been eligible to have competed at the Daytona 24 Hours at some point in its history then the HSR have a reputation for inclusion and finding place for you to race. At the very least the meeting offers a week in Florida as the European winter starts to make its presence felt, in 2015 the weather gods smiled with sunshine and great temperatures!
