Planning Proceeding for Monterey Motorsports Reunion to Run

In a crescendo of impressive optimism, the relatively new management team at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca have released a statement saying that although two events have been cancelled, all others scheduled for the California track this year are currently expected to proceed as planned.

This includes August’s Monterey Pre-Reunion and the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, which are on consecutive weekends, the latter one of the highest-profile historic events in the US.

“Our top priority continues to be safeguarding the well-being of associates, and all those who enter the Laguna Seca Recreation Area,” explained John Narigi, president and general manager of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. “We continue our planning of the events, working with our partners and community to ensure that when California officials lift the shelter in place order and everyone is healthy and safe, we haven’t missed a step.”

While the circuit may be ready and waiting in August, at present it is impossible to predict the progress of both the spread of Coronavius (Covid-19) and the extensive medical efforts to contain it, and the willingness of owners and drivers to travel and race at that time cannot even be currently guessed at. The entry letters for the Reunion sent to owners of entered cars that have been passed by the Selection Committee are usually issued at the start of April, it will be interesting to see how welcome they are - and how many would actuallly be acted on.
