The Historic Sports Car Club will welcome pre-1984 Sports 2000 cars in 2017 after a successful trial alongside Classic Clubmans cars this season. The two-litre Ford Pinto-engined Sports 2000 built up to and including 1984 have run within Classic Clubmans races on a trial basis and the move has now been extended into a full programme for next season.

The two types of sports-racing cars have proved to be very compatible on-track and regular Sports 2000 racer Roger Waite says that having five Sports 2000 within the Classic Clubmans grid at the HSCC Silverstone Finals Meeting last month shows that the concept is gathering momentum.

“The Silverstone entry was very encouraging and we want to continue that into 2017,” said Waite. “The cars are sat in garages and there has been a lot of interest shown.” Waite’s Royale S2000M was joined by the similar car of Andrew Colley and cars for Peter Needham (Tiga SC82), Bruce Balchin (March 84S) and Graham Briggs (Lola T492).

Grahame White, Chief Executive Officer of the HSCC, said: “We are very pleased to bring the earlier Sports 2000s onto the Classic Clubmans grid. The cars fit together very nicely and we hope to encourage more of them to join us next season.”
