Our man Paul Jurd picked out this superb orginal Ford Lotus Cortina when looking at Silverstone Auction's Autosport International lots, the car selling for £168,750 in Saturday afternoon's sale.
The car has a fine pedigree, it is one of only three ‘Group 5’ works cars built by Lotus for the 1966 British Saloon Car Championship and was been driven by Jim Clark, Peter Arundell, Jacky Ickx, Sir John Whitmore and Graham Hill. In June 1966 it was converted to fuel-injection by BRM and in its first race with the new engine, won its class at the hands of Sir John Whitmore.
