Loic Deman and Michael Lyons took the FIA Historic Formula One wins at Spa-Francorchamps, as the series featured at the Spa Six Hours meeting.

Race one saw drama even before the start when Lyons, who had qualified on pole, had his engine let go at the start of the warm-up lap. Once the race was actually underway it was Deman who was the driver not he moved into second on lap two in his Tyrrell before taking the lead from Christophe d’Ansembourg two laps later.

A safety car period on lap five closed them up again, Mike Hazell off at Malmedy, but it was Deaman’s race and he eased away n the final laps to take the win on his ‘home’ circuit. Canton and d’Ansembourg rounded out the podium slots, Nick Padmore fifth in his Shadow and first Pre-78 car home.

A lot of work in the pits, plus the load of an engine from Mike Wrigley saw Lyons back on the grid for Sunday’s race, which was started with three laps behind the safety car with part of the circuit damp. Once racing, Lyons was never threatened and won with a handsome lead, with an all Williams podium as d’Ansembourg got the better of Cantillon after a close battle.

Padmore was fourth, again taking he Pre-78 category.
