Condensed FIA Masters Seasons Explained

For the 2020 season, the FIA Masters Historic Formula One and FIA Masters Historic Sports Car Championships will be structured around three events. The choice has been made to consolidate the Championships into the summer period to encourage stronger competition within a focused time-frame.

The races will run from the Silverstone Classic at the end of July, through to Spa-Francorchamps at the end of September, via Zandvoort, where competitors will have the opportunity to discover a track that has been partially remodelled compared to previous years, to accommodate the return of the Formula 1 Dutch Grand Prix. The selection of Silverstone, Zandvoort and Spa is also motivated by history, with the selected events at these circuits each having a prestigious historic link to Formula 1 or Sports Cars. All three are also covered by a Circuit licence of the highest level, FIA Grade 1.Masters Sportscars

“For some time we have been acutely aware of the hectic lifestyles, business schedules and family commitments of our drivers that make a long season of racing challenging,” explained Ron Maydon, Founder and President of Masters Historic Racing. “So, together with the FIA, we have decided to intensify the competition and make it more accessible by reducing the FIA Masters Historic Championships for Historic Formula One and Historic Sports Cars from 7 to 3 rounds and having a summer-only schedule.

“This means that anyone who wants to have a real go at becoming an FIA Champion can do so over a two-month period. For many years we have been proud to run the longer version of the FIA Championships alongside our other wonderful grids but felt it was time for a refresh to our schedule for 2020 to better accommodate our drivers needs, whilst still maintaining the competitive racing they enjoy.”

The 2020 schedules for the FIA Masters Historic Formula One Championship & FIA Masters Historic Sports Car Championships are:
31st July/2nd August - Silverstone Classic, Silverstone, UK
4th/6th September - Historic Grand Prix, Zandvoort, Holland
25th/27th September - Spa Six Hours, Spa, Belgium
