Equipe GTS is a successful classic race series open to pre- 66 (period E & F) cars with engines up to 2700cc, and they have now announced a three-hour race for these cars at Silverstone in September. The series has been going from strength to strength and is launching the new race inspired by the 1960’s races at Sebring in the US where a mix of GT/GTS and Touring cars offered some spectacular close racing.
The three-hour race will be held on Saturday 30th September 2017 at the AMOC Racing event on the Silverstone National circuit. Entry criteria for the Classic Relay has been extended to include cars pre ‘66 GT & GTS up to 3 litres and Touring /Saloon cars up to 2 litres. All cars must be running to FIA appendix K and on Dunlop historic tyres.
Equipe GTS will be at the forthcoming Historic Motorsport International event at ExCel London (23-26 February) where race organiser John Pearson will be up on stage of the HMI Conference theatre talking about the new event.
To enter, competitors will need a team of two to four cars, with only one car allowed on track at any time. Team strategy and car or driver changes will play a big part in the results. A handicap system will ensure an exciting and close finish for all classes.
Equipe GTS Partner John Pearson commented: “There is a gap in the market for a longer distance team event for smaller engine cars. The Equipe Classic Relay will combine closely matched smaller engined FiA cars in multiple car teams ensuring that no driver or car has to do the entire race”
Long distance team and relay events are well established and known for strong camaraderie which embodies the spirit of the Equipe GTS series. Equipe GTS Partner Rob Cull enthused “It will give the opportunity to be part of a team race without the stress put on one car with multiple drivers, such as Le Mans or the Spa Six Hour.”
Duncan Wiltshire race director for the AMOC Racing commented “We are really excited about this race, it is a fantastic innovation and are delighted to be hosting it on our Silverstone AMOC race event.”
